Cindy's Soft Serve Re-Opening in March

Find out when the Elkridge institution will officially open for the 2013 season.

It's just not summer in Elkridge without Cindy's Soft Serve. Claude Sacker, who runs the iconic snoball and soft serve ice cream stand on Route 1, said the business will re-open on Thursday, March 28, 2013. Every year, the business closes at the beginning of October and then re-opens around the beginning of April. And each year, after the stand closes, the sign out front reads, "Gone Fishing, see you in April... Thanks for your patronage!" Despite the sign saying April, Sacker assured Patch the stand will re-open at the end of March. In 2012, Elkridge Patch readers selected the stand as the best place to get ice cream in Elkridge. Cindy's Soft Serve Closes for Winter

The ice cream and snowball joint closed on Oct. 2 and will reopen April 1.

The “Gone Fishing” sign on the 6300 block of Washington Boulevard is almost as telling as the leaves changing color in Elkridge. Stating that Cindy’s Soft Serve is closed for winter, the sign marks the official end of summer. Cindy’s closes the first Sunday in October every year. “Everyone’s pretty heartbroken,” said Tyler Metzger, 18, who was cleaning out the ice cream and snowball stand on Oct. 4 when Patch caught up with him. Fewer people show up for snowballs as the weather turns cooler, added Metzger, who's been working there for three years. Cindy’s Soft Serve will reopen the first Sunday in April.
