PHOTO: El Nayar Says Goodbye to Elkridge

Friday was the last day the restaurant on Business Parkway was open.

Maria Flores, who owns El Nayar, was taking things off the restaurant walls Friday afternoon. "I came back today to pack up little things," said Flores. "Everything else will stay here." There was one thing she planned to put up: A sign announcing the restaurant's closure. Friday was the Elkridge restaurant's last day open, after six years of being in business, due to financial constraints she said were a result of the economy. Flores said some customers who came for lunch on July 20 told her they would visit her Catonsville restaurant of the same name, which will remain open. She said: "Many of them work here [in Elkridge] and live over there." El Nayar in Catonsville is located at 801 Frederick Road. It's open every day except Sunday. …

(Updated) El Nayar in Elkridge: 'We Have Decided to Close'

Catonsville location to stay open; Elkridge restaurant will close.

This story was updated at 2:15 p.m. Thursday Maria Flores arrived in Maryland about 20 years ago after immigrating to the United States from Mexico. After working her way up to a manager position at McDonald’s, Flores and her husband decided to take a shot at the American Dream. They opened a Mexican restaurant six years ago in Elkridge. A second one followed in 2008 in Catonsville, a suburb outside southwestern Baltimore. But the couple’s dream has been faced with a nightmarish economy.
