The former Elkridge resident is accused of killing his wife and burying her under a shed more than 20 years ago.
The trial began Wednesday for a man accused of murdering his wife and burying her body under a shed in their yard. Robert Jarrett, Jr., formerly of Elkridge, was indicted in May for the 1991 murder of his then-wife, Christine Jarrett. After getting permission to search the Elkridge property from Jarrett’s second wife, police found Christine Jarrett’s remains on April 18, 2012, under concrete, under a shed in the yard. Jarrett and his second wife have since divorced. According to a spokesman for the State’s Attorney’s office, during opening statements in court Wednesday, prosecutor James Dietrich told the court that Robert and Christine Jarrett’s marriage was marked by infidelity and abuse. A new court date for Robert Jarrett Jr. will be set this week.
The trial has been postponed for a man accused of murdering his wife and burying her under a shed in his backyard. Jury selection was scheduled to begin Wednesday for Robert Jarrett Jr., who faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of his wife, Christine Jarrett. In a motion hearing in Circuit Court on Monday, a judge ruled that the remains found entombed in concrete and buried under a shed at the Elkridge home the couple shared could be used as evidence. Jarrett reported his wife missing in 1991. According to police, Jarret reported that he and his wife were arguing and that she left and didn't return. Jury selection should begin Wednesday in the case of an Elkridge man accused of murdering his wife, burying her under the shed.
Remains found buried in concrete underneath a shed in an Elkridge backyard can be used as evidence in the state’s trial against Robert Jarrett Jr., a judge ruled Monday. The remains, according to the medical examiner, were those of Christine Jarrett, Robert Jarrett’s wife in January 1991 when he reported her missing. In April 2012, Jarrett’s second wife – from whom he was separated at the time and who later filed for divorce – allowed police to search the property behind their house. It was the same home Jarrett shared with Christine when she was reported missing. Jarrett was indicted on first-degree murder in May.
