Howard County police recently conducted a ‘test’ of county liquor establishments.
Five liquor stores in Elkridge and one in Ellicott City were recently cited by Howard County police for selling liquor to underage customers, police said Thursday. Those liquor stores are: Jessup Discount Liquor, 7880 Washington Blvd, Elkridge Elkridge Discount Liquor, 5827 Washington Blvd, Elkridge Troy Farms Liquors, 6161 Meadowridge Rd, Elkridge Lark Brown Liquors, 6590 Old Waterloo Rd, Elkridge Waterloo Liquors, 6524 Old Waterloo Rd, Elkridge Dorsey Search Wine & Spirits, 4725 Dorsey Hall Dr, Ellicott City All establishments cited will now be brought before the Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Board for violation hearings, police said. Police say they caught a burglary suspect red-handed with cash from an Ekridge store he allegedly robbed. Joseph Charles Williams, 53, of Patterson, NJ, was charged with 22 counts of burglary, nine counts of malicious destruction of property and four counts of theft in connection with three businesses burglarized on Marshalee Drive Sunday morning. Police said that Williams broke into Naima's Hair Design, Hunan Express and Great Clips. A newspaper delivery driver reported that the glass door to Naima's Hair Design had been shattered at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, according to the Howard County Police Department (HCPD). A Howard County judge agreed to cap the first-degree arson sentence at 10 years in prison.
Barry Lee Murphy, 48, pleaded guilty Tuesday to setting a fire in December at the White Elk Motel that damaged a second-story unit. As a result of the first-degree arson charge, the Howard County State's Attorney's Office said it plans to recommend a 10-year flat sentence and restitution to the motel and Murphy's girlfriend. The maximum sentence for a first-degree arson charge, which is a felony, is 30 years and up to $50,000. Howard County Circuit Court Judge William Tucker agreed at the hearing Tuesday to cap the sentence at 10 years. The state dropped charges against fifth party involved.
Four men were indicted Tuesday by a Howard County Grand Jury on charges stemming from the methamphetamine lab discovered in an Elkridge hotel room last month, according to the state’s attorney’s office. Howard County police said they found drugs and a handgun at the Holiday Inn Express on June 4, when responding to a report of suspicious activity. Law enforcement arrested five men after locating chemicals in the room. Fire officials said they secured the scene and evacuated the hotel, which was considered potentially dangerous because of the hazardous materials involved. David Maya is in custody, according to West Virginia's Wheeling Police Department.
Elkridge resident David Maya, suspected in the June 9 sexual assault of a minor, has been apprehended, according to the Wheeling Police Department in West Virginia. Police said Maya was charged with four counts of sexual assault after he reportedly attacked a 12-year-old girl near a park in Wheeling. Police said he met the girl online. A sergeant with the Wheeling Police told Elkridge Patch that Maya was found in Maryland near Washington, D.C., and is currently in custody. Police said an extradition hearing will be held in the next few days to determine if he will be returned to West Virginia.

David Maya of Elkridge sought in connection with West Virginia attack.
Police are looking for David Maya, 24, of Elkridge, in connection with an alleged rape that occurred in West Virginia, reports The Intelligencer. Maya lives in Capitol Mobile Park off Washington Boulevard, according to online court records, and drives a 2000 Ford Mustang, according to WTRF-TV. Police said a man arranged with a juvenile girl he met online to rendezvous in person at a baseball field in Wheeling Island, WV, reported WTOV Channel 9. According to the report, Maya assaulted the girl in a wooded area near the baseball field on Saturday. U.S. Marshals were searching for Maya in Maryland on Wednesday, according to The Intelligencer.

A man was assaulted on the 6200 block of Washington Blvd. in Elkridge.
Three people robbed and assaulted an Elkridge motel guest over the weekend, reported police. A man and two women walked into an unlocked motel room on the 6200 block of Washington Boulevard at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. Bearing a knife, the suspects demanded money from the man staying in the room, police said. The suspects punched the victim in the face and stole his wallet and cell phone, according to police.
