Hundreds Bid Harley-Davidson Dealer Farewell

Harley-Davidson of Maryland, located on Troy Hill Drive in Elkridge, will go out of business on Feb. 28. On Feb. 5, the store hosted a retirement party for its owner, who is moving to North Carolina.

More than 400 people braved a cold drizzle on Saturday to bid Tina Ice, 66, farewell. She is retiring from Harley-Davidson of Maryland, which she has owned and operated for 20 years. What might have otherwise been a happy occasion was tarnished by the news that the dealership, located at 7010 Troy Hill Drive in Elkridge, will go out of business on Feb. 28. “I’m okay. I feel good,” said Ice with a tinge of emotion in her voice. “I’ve seen people today that I haven’t seen in years. This is great.” Dozens of shoppers were buying motorcycle clothing and accessories in a flurry of activity during the daylong event that appeared part flea market and part retirement party. I delt with HD of Elkridge in the early 1990's just after Mr. Ed's purchase of the business when they were located on Howard Lane. I am certainly sorry to see any person lose their business but I was not suprized to learn of the company's demise. Actually, I was suprized that the business made it for almost 20 years.
