Governor Martin O’Malley said Wednesday in Elkridge that Congress’s inability to compromise on budget cuts has led to a situation where across the board cuts could slow Maryland’s economic growth. Howard County Executive Ken Ulman was reportedly locked out of the Super Bowl during the power outage at the Superdome.
Howard County Executive Ken Ulman went down to New Orleans to watch the Baltimore Ravens play in the Super Bowl along with his brother Doug Ulman and his father Lou. Ulman's brother Doug, the CEO of Livestrong, had acquired the tickets, according to Sam O'Neil, an Ulman administration official. But when the lights went out just after the start of the third quarter, it was Ulman who was out in the dark—he was locked out of the building, according to an Explore Howard report. Ulman told Explore Howard he had gone outside to call his wife, when the power went out, and the stadium went into lockdown. County Executive Ken Ulman proclaimed that Howard County’s investments in education, sustainability and public health have made it a model for the rest of the state in his State of the County address on Thursday. Howard County Executive Ken Ulman announced Wednesday that he raised $1.14 million in campaign donations in 2012, giving him a total of $2.13 million. The $1.14 million raised in 2012 is a slight increase from his 2011 total when he took in $1.06 million. “I am humbled and grateful that so many people have chosen to support our vision for progress, economic growth, common sense and innovative solutions,” Ulman said in a statement. “I believe Maryland is the greatest state in the country, and I will continue to work hard to help us fulfill our potential.” Ulman is considered by many to be a candidate for governor in 2014, as he cannot run for Howard County Executive again due to term limits. Howard County Executive Ken Ulman said Monday he'd support a ban on assault weapons and regulations on gun magazine size as public officials across the country weigh in on gun policy after the deadly school shooting in Connecticut. County Executive Ken Ulman said he plans to be in Prince George's County later this week picking up trash while singing 'Hail to the Redskins' and wearing a Redskins jersey after losing a bet to Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker. Ulman is scheduled to make good on the bet on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Wayne Curry Sports and Learning Center in Landover. 20 to 25 million gallons of wastewater entered Little Patuxent during the power outage that began Monday night.
County Executive Ken Ulman said 20 to 25 million gallons of wastewater entered the Little Patuxent River in Savage after the county's wastewater plant's two electricity feeders lost power Monday night during Hurricane Sandy. The Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant lost power at 11 p.m. on Monday and wastewater continued to enter the river until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Ulman. Once power was restored, the plant was no longer releasing wastewater into the river, according to county officials at the plant on Tuesday. “This is a very serious issue,” said Ulman, standing on top of one of the wastewater tanks next to the river. “We need to work with BGE to get more reliable power here.” He pointed across the river to a woodsy …
