After hours of deliberation, a jury has found Robert Jarrett Jr. guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his former wife, Christine Jarrett, the Baltimore Sun reported. Prosecutors had been seeking a first-degree murder conviction for Robert Jarrett, who reported Christine Jarrett missing in 1991. At the time, a detective on the case said that he thought she had run away. The trial began Wednesday for a man accused of murdering his wife and burying her body under a shed in their yard. Robert Jarrett, Jr., formerly of Elkridge, was indicted in May for the 1991 murder of his then-wife, Christine Jarrett. Remains found buried in concrete underneath a shed in an Elkridge backyard can be used as evidence in the state’s trial against Robert Jarrett Jr., a judge ruled Monday. The remains, according to the medical examiner, were those of Christine Jarrett, Robert Jarrett’s wife in January 1991 when he reported her missing. In April 2012, Jarrett’s second wife – from whom he was separated at the time and who later filed for divorce – allowed police to search the property behind their house. A Howard County Circuit Court judge ruled Thursday that evidence discovered in the April search of Robert Jarrett’s home may be used in his trial on charges of killing his wife. During the search of the Elkridge property, police uncovered the remains of Jarrett’s former wife, Christine, mixed with concrete and buried beneath a shed in the yard. The wife of an Elkridge man behind bars in the killing of his first wife 21 years ago has filed for divorce on grounds of adultery and abuse, reported the Howard County Times. Martha Joan Jarrett filed for divorce on April 27 from her husband Robert Jarrett, who was recently charged with killing Christine Jarrett in 1991. Her body was found buried beneath a shed in Jarrett's backyard. In the filing, Martha Jarrett said that her husband had committed adultery, was living with another woman and had been “verbally and mentally” abusive, according to the Howard County Times.
