Grieving Community Stages Demos Against Bullying

A "freeze mob" on Tuesday at Howard High was one of several events aimed at bringing awareness to the emotionally charged topic.

After Glenelg student Grace McComas, 15, killed herself on Easter Sunday, her friends began a movement called "Blue4Grace" in which they wore blue at her wake to take a stand against bullying. Grace's parents said she was harassed online for months, according to The Baltimore Sun. "Can children not take a minute and realize they’re killing each other over petty things?" wrote one commenter on the Blue4Grace page. Students at Howard High School took more than a minute on Tuesday. Time stood still between second and third periods as they collectively paused during what is called a "freeze mob" while the song "Lean on Me" played. Rothlesberger had a bad ankle. What was Joe's excuse? The fact is that no team in the A.F.C. is dominating. The A.F.C. Championship is up for grabs. The Ravens are in the hunt and have as good a shot as anyone. I'd say the only team that is dominating in the entire league is Green Bay.   more ›

Clicks, Likes, Tweets and Tumbles: Who Rules on Maryland Social Media?

How many friends do you have? If you live in Maryland, chances are, quite a few – at least in the world of social networking. According to a recent report, more than one-third of Marylanders had accounts on Facebook, the social media network with millions of users worldwide, as of July 2010 (2,078,478 to be exact.) The state ranks 34th among the states in terms of percentage of Facebook account holders and 23rd for Twitter account holders. DCI Group Digital, part of the DCI Group public affairs company in Washington, D.C., compared each state’s Facebook and Twitter accounts to numbers from the 2010 census.
