Liz Bobo Won't Return to General Assembly

The state delegate says her grandson, Zach Lederer, played a role in her decision.

Elizabeth Bobo will not be seeking another term in the Maryland General Assembly. Bobo, who has represented District 12b since 1994, wrote in her legislative update to constituents that her grandson, Zach Lederer, played a role in her decision not to seek reelection in 2014. The way our grandson, Zach, is living his life with such joy, courage, generosity and gratitude in the face of brain cancer has had a profound impact on me.  This has led me to take a close look at how I want to live the remainder of my own life, and I now know that after two more years in the Maryland Legislature, my work in public office will be finished. WATCH: Zaching Through the Pain

Patch catches up with Zach Lederer, subject of the "Zaching" internet sensation, as he undergoes cancer treatment and continues to inspire.

Every day, Zach Lederer, 18, forces himself to do 50 pushups and lift weights in the 6-by-15 foot gym in his family's Ellicott City, MD, home. That might not seem unusual for a teenage boy, but Lederer is defying expectations for a patient undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for brain cancer. "Every time I go up in that room and lift one weight, I'm doing the impossible," Lederer said in a recent interview. In early February, a photo went viral on the Internet and Twitter with a scrappy-looking college kid sitting in a hospital bed flexing his biceps.
