Week Ahead in Weather: Hello Winter

Here's a look at the week's forecast, courtesy of the National Weather Service.

Seems as if we've been asking "where’s winter?" for weeks now. Well, here it is. It’s going to be so cold this week that the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook. Add to that a winter storm that may be coming our way, and it looks like the cold season has arrived. Today, the highs will be in the low 20s. The dry winter air coupled with wind gusts approaching 30 mph will also make for prime wildfire conditions, according to NWS. Temperatures will drop to the mid-teens tonight and the winds will persist. Wednesday, temperatures will reach the high 20s. It should also be breezy, but not as severe as Monday. NWS: Snow is Coming

Snow or rain will start just in time for the evening commute, according to NWS.

Howard County, and much of the central Maryland region, is under a hazardous weather outlook as a storm enters the area this afternoon. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) there's a chance of rain and snow before 3 p.m. this afternoon with a high near 41 degrees. A total daytime snow accumulation of less than half an inch is possible.  Tonight is expected to bring snow, mainly before 10 p.m. with a low around 33 degrees according to the NWS.  Thursday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 47 degrees during the day and a low around 31 degrees at night. Friday is expected to be sunny with a high near 51 degrees. The Maryland State Highway Administration is also monitoring the storm and advises commuters to plan for a longer trip…

Hail, Flooding and Gusty Winds: Hazardous Weather in Howard County

Heavy rain may bring with it dangerous situations.

There is nothing good about the latest National Weather Service (NWS) alert. A hazardous weather outlook is calling for scattered thunderstorms Thursday evening; some may become strong with the possibility of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail.  Rainfall could reach rates of two inches in less than an hour Friday, which may lead to flash flooding, so keep an eye out on nearby streams and the Patapsco River. Along with all of this comes a code orange air quality alert. That means particulate matter and other polution levels may become unhealthy, especially for asthmatics, the elderly and people with heart or lung diseases.  NWS suggests avoiding strenuous activity or outdoor exercise.
