Elkridge Robbery A man coming from a check cashing business was being driven by an acquaintance when he was dropped off at his home. Shortly after, another vehicle pulled up and a passenger got out. The passenger and driver of the car assaulted the man and took his wallet, cell phone and keys, then drove off. The incident occurred in the 6700 block of Pirch Way around 5 p.m. on May 15. North Laurel Robbery Two men approached a woman. One displayed a gun and demanded the woman's vehicle. The woman told the men the vehicle was equipped with a Lo-Jack tracking device and then the men demanded her wallet and cell phone, which she gave them. Police released video and photos from a May 4 robbery in hopes of finding the robbers.
Howard County police are offering a reward for help identifying two men who robbed a liquor store. On May 4 just after 11 p.m., two employees were closing up shop at All Saints Liquors, on the 9100 block of All Saints Road in Laurel, when two masked men showed up with a handgun and demanded the employees lay on the floor, according to police. One of the robbers hit one of the employees in the head with the gun, according to police. Then the two robbers took all of the money from the registers and from a lock box. Police do not know how much money was stolen. Police have released this footage and two still pictures from the store's surveillance cameras. Elkridge Construction site burglary Two houses under construction on the 5900 block of Cypress Springs Road were burglarized around May 6, according to police. In one house, an HVAC cased-coil was broken but nothing was reported stolen. In the other house, copper wire was reported stolen. Police say there were no signs of force in either house. Police say Dennis Lane was stabbed Friday morning.
Howard County police have identified a man found stabbed to death in his Ellicott City home Friday morning as blogger Dennis James Lane. According to a statement from police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn, Lane, 58, was stabbed in his home on the 8100 block of Winding Ross Way. Lane ran the Howard County blog Tale of Two Cities and co-costed a Howard County-centric podcast "... And Then There's That." A family member called 911, according to the statement. When police arrived at the home, they found Lane and a 19-year-old male who Llewellyn identified as a "suspect." Lane was pronounced dead on the scene. The 19 year old is believed to be a family friend. He is currently in police custody, according to Llewellyn, but he has not been charged…

Columbia Residential burglary A resident of the 7500 block of Broken Staff reported her Apple MacBook was stolen on April 26 between 1 and 5:30 p.m. According to police, there was no sign of forced entry. Police say a resident of the 5400 block of Columbia Road lost his keys sometime between April 27 and May 2. His keychain had his address and phone number on it. On May 2, the resident found his keys on the floor of his home, just inside the front door. He reported several items missing, including cameras, purses, jewelry and a laptop. Michael McKenny pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Howard County Circuit Court.
A Howard County man pleaded guilty Tuesday to secretly videotaping two women inside their Ellicott City condominium and was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Police arrested Columbia resident Michael Stephen McKenny in October of 2012 after investigating a hidden camera found inside a Montgomery Run Road condo in Ellicott City. The investigation began in September when a 29-year-old Ellicott City woman told police she found a hidden camera in her bedroom that was focused on her bathroom. According to charging documents, the camera, which began recording when it detected movement, secretly recorded the 29-year-old and a 30-year-old roommate in their bedrooms and bathrooms. Howard County Police are asking for help after a woman was found shot to death in a car in Columbia Saturday, according to a statement released by police. Someone called police at about 9 a.m. after seeing a woman who “appeared to be injured” in a car on the 9600 block of Basket Ring Road, according to police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn. When police arrived, they found Deborah Castellano, 47, dead with multiple gunshot wounds in a Toyota Corolla parked in parking lot, according to Llewellyn. Police say they think Castellano had recently moved to the area and was living in the apartment building near where she was shot. Elkridge Burglary Someone broke into a home on the 5900 block of Old Washington Blvd. late the night of April 25 or early the next morning, according to police. The burglar forced open a back door and stole two bags that were hanging on the wall, within arms reach of the door. One of the bags was a purse; the other, the resident’s lunch. Ellicott City Burglary A resident returned home to the 8900 block of Town and Country on April 19 to find the front door had been unlocked, according to police.
