Chantal de la Rionda is a contributing editor for all Maryland Patch sites.

Chantal worked at National Public Radio for six years, beginning as an intern on the National Desk while earning her B.A from American University.  It was at NPR where Chantal developed her skills as an editor and regular contributor to NPR.org as a music columnist. However, Chantal's greatest recognition came during her years managing research at the NPR's Ombudsman's office, where she liaised with listeners and the newsroom to investigate claims of bias against NPR's editorial policy.

Meanwhile, Chantal engaged in post-graduate work in Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, simultaneously mentoring interns and journalism students in various organizations, including the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Professionally, she continues to actively participate in the Journalism and Women Symposium, as well as the Organization of New Ombudsmen.

One of Chantal's extracurricular passions is tango, which she pursued to Buenos Aires to learn from the best. She brought her new-found love of the dance back to the U.S., reporting and producing an audio documentary of tango for NPR. Inspired by the jet-setting experience, Chantal spent the next six months hiking New Zealand, practicing yoga in India, scuba diving in Australia's Great Barrier Reef and photographing the wild animals of East Africa.

Since returning to the U.S. in 2010, Chantal works as in-demand contributor for established media organizations such as PBS, Knowledgewebb and most recently, Patch.com. She lives with her tango shoes in Washington, D.C.
