Update: Missing Ellicott City Man Found Dead

Update - July 10, 3:20 p.m - Police said a missing Ellicott City man was found dead in a wooded area near the 2200 block of Daniels Road in Ellicott City. 

George Joseph Holthaus, 50, was found with a single gunshot wound by employees of the Dept. of Natural Resources on Wednesday. Police said there was no indication of foul play.

Howard County police are looking for a 50-year-old man who walked away from his home Tuesday morning and was not back as of 7 p.m.

George Joseph Holthaus said he was going to take a walk at 8:30 a.m., when he left his home, on the 2200 block of Daniels Road in Ellicott City, according to a statement released by police. 

When he didn't return by about 3:50 p.m., family first did their own search, then called police. 

Family members told police that Holthaus had talked about hurting himself in the past. 

Police describe him as a white man, 6-feet-tall weighing about 200 pounds with dark brown hair with a bit of gray. 

Holthaus was wearing a navy blue polo shirt with horizontal stripes, black and gray camouflage shorts, and white sneakers

Holthaus is described as a white male; 6 ft., 200 lbs.; wearing a navy blue polo shirt with thin horizontal stripes, black and gray camouflage shorts, white tennis shoes.  He has dark brown hair with a little bit of gray.

Police think Holthaus is on foot and that he may still be in the Ellicott City area. Police are asking people who see or have information about him to call 911.
