Police said they believed Patel was driving his motorcycle southbound on Route 1 at Old Washington Road when he swerved to avoid a vehicle, lost control of his motorcycle and fell off the bike.

According to police, a passing truck then hit Patel. Witnesses said that the truck driver did not stop, but police do not think that the truck driver was at fault or knew that he or she had hit Patel.
