Decades After Roswell, UFO Sightings in Elkridge and Beyond

Sixty-six years ago Monday a rancher in the area of Roswell, NM told the Roswell Daily Record that he saw a glowing, 15-to-20-foot saucer “zoom out of the sky … at a high rate of speed.” 

In late 2012, someone in Elkridge reported to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) seeing a UFO: A “huge black triangle UFO with red, white and green alternating, pulsating lights at corners hovering over Elkridge.”

Since Roswell, sightings of unidentified flying objects (which have somehow come to be synonymous with alien space ships) have been a constant inspiration for National Enquirer covers, conspiracy theorists and us everyday Joes as we try to figure out if we’re alone in the universe. 

Even Google Monday celebrated the search for ET with an interactive Google doodle. (After Monday, look for the doodle here).

The United States government does not keep official records of reported UFO sightings, according this US News article, which highlights several pilots and military accounts of seeing something strange in the sky.

But according to a host of varied sources – ranging from the Huffington Post to UFOSightingsDaily.com – reported sightings of UFOs increased dramatically in 2012. 

So what the heck?

If the skies are clear and you happen to be outside tonight, why not commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Roswell “incident” simply by looking up?
